had given Adam a brief summary of their stay in
Monterrey.
"Yeah. He's a strange man. I never did understand
him." He lay there looking at her in silence for a while.
"A baby, huh?"
"Yep."
"That's just like you. Jump in over your head and
start a family first thing. You always were head-
strong."
"Dane is rapidly taming me, believe me."
"Good for Dane." He grew thoughtful. "You never
know why things happen the way they do. I had plenty
of time to think about my life, where it was going and
what I wanted out of it. I don't suppose a person can
go through what I did without coming out of it with a
different attitude. I believe you and Dane have dis-
covered what I learned during the past two months.
Loving someone and sharing your life with a person
can add a powerful dimension to your existence. It
gives your life additional depth and meaning."
"You talk as though you've discovered what love
can do."
"I have. I've always known how I felt about the two
of you, and knowing you were waiting for me kept me
going at times when I was ready to give up. But I need
to tell you that I'm going back to Mexico when I'm
fully recovered. There's someone there who not only
saved my life, but my soul and my sanity. I told her I
was coming back for her. I think she doubts that I'll
return, but it really doesn't matter if she believed me
or not I'm going."
"She sounds pretty special."
Dane suddenly appeared at the doorway. "Just as I
suspected. Here you are entertaining my wife in your
bedroom once again. We're going to have to have a
talk."
Felicia walked over to the tall man who leaned in-
dolently in the doorway of her brother's room, the
same man who had appeared in her life years ago and
stolen her heart. Going up on tiptoes, she kissed him,
her heart suddenly overflowing with love.
"I don't think you'll ever have to worry, cowboy.
I've got my hands full trying to take care of you."
Dane hugged her to him, then looked over her head
at her brother, propped up in bed.
The two men exchanged a glance of silent com-
munication. The St. Clair ranch was back in full op-
eration everyone was home.
